Not only is Tainan the oldest city in Taiwan, it is also technologically advanced. With four <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tainan">universities</a>, including <span class="txt">Cheng Kung University,</span> and a substantial <a href="http://www.ttip.gov.tw/Intro/intro_eng.htm">technology park</a>.<br /><br />Like Rochester, Tainan is active in <a href="http://optics.org/articles/ole/9/7/5/1">photonics</a> and <a href="http://investintaiwan.nat.gov.tw/en/news/biotech.html">biotech</a>. In the biotech area the government plans to increase investment to have Taiwan become a <a href="http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/biz/archives/2006/02/04/2003291540">"bio-medical"</a> island.<br /><br />The government of Tainan supports the idea of a "Friendship City" relationship with Rochester.
